Why I chose to build in a crowded market

Why would you enter a market that is already crowded? When I decided to build a dating app, I knew exactly what I was walking into. There were already major players. People already had dating apps downloaded on their phones. Billions of dollars had already been invested into the category. And perhaps more importantly, people were tired. There was dating app fatigue. People were talking about endless swiping, shallow conversations, ghosting, mismatched intentions and spending months on platforms without feeling like they were getting any closer to finding the kind of relationship they actually wanted.

They see the excitement, the new website, the logo, the first client, the first launch. Then, if you are fortunate enough to build something successful, they see the result. They see the revenue. They see the team. They see the growth. They see the opportunities that come with having built something that works. What they often do not see is everything that happened in between.

I was a mum before I officially became an entrepreneur. And I think that matters, because motherhood shaped the kind of entrepreneur I eventually became. Being a mother is one of the greatest roles I believe a woman can be given. You are entrusted with this little person who depends on you for almost everything.
